Course details


Chemotherapy is a high-volume, high-risk clinical intervention that involves the care of an interprofessional team. Interprofessional training can improve quality and safety of healthcare services. The Multiprofessional Oncology Safety and SimulationTraining (MOSST) course will be delivered in a blended format, combining an in-person workshop with online activities to improve knowledge and skills, promote clinician behavior change, and highlight benefits to healthcare organizations and patients. Each session will include tips to implement practice change in your setting. 

Program topics


Chemotherapy safety principles

-ONS/ASCO safety standards
-National Academy of Medicine Quality of Cancer Care Report
-Latest research on chemotherapy safety

Managing oncology emergencies

-Review of emerging emergencies with immunotherapy
-Updates to oncology emergency interventions
-Interprofessional simulations

Extravasations

-Review of preventive measures and interventions
-Documentation pitfalls and promising strategies
-Simulations

Managing patients receiving oral anti-cancer therapy

-Interventions to improve adherence
-Emerging toxicity patterns and their management

Hazardous drug handling and spill response

-Review of the ONS guidelines, the ASHP guidelines, and revised NIOSH alerts
-Simulations in drug handling and spill response

Learning activities


The MOSST Program consists of three parts:

-Pre-workshop readings and knowledge assessments online

-An all day workshop which combines lectures, case studies, and simulation techniques 

-Post-workshop materials and online discussion to support networking and practice change.

Participants will earn CE hours for workshop attendance*

*In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education and the University of Michigan. The National Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The current funding cycle for the MOSST workshops has ended. No further workshops are scheduled at this time.
